how our bridal alteration process works.
Alterations are started four weeks before the wedding. We can make exceptions for customers that are only hemming their dress or have a lace up back.
We like to try and book brides in for a 'One Day Alteration'. This means that we will try and alter your dress in one day. You come in first thing in the morning on a Tuesday at 9am for your 1st fitting and then again at 4pm for your 2nd fitting. If the dress fits perfectly you can then take it home or if there are minor alterations needed we would book a third fitting for the following Tuesday or upcoming Friday.
Note that your first two fittings are included in your alteration quote and the third fitting is mostly covered under the discretion of seamstress. Any further fittings will be charged at $50 a fitting. This may or may not include the alterations needed to your address.
What you need to bring with you to your first wedding dress fitting.
Shoes - One of the most important things to bring to your first wedding dress fitting is your shoes. If you have not bought your shoes yet the best alternative would be to bring a heel that would be the same height as the shoes you are planing to buy.
Having your shoes with you at your first fitting would save you on an extra fitting that an extra cost of $50.
Undergarments - If you are planing to wear specific undergarments please bring this with you as it can make a big difference on how much a dress needs to be taken in. Undergarments can either push out in areas or nip you in, so it is very important that you bring these with you at your first fitting to try on. We do however recommend brides not to buy or wear any as most dresses are structure to do just that job.
Who to bring with you.
At most first bridal fittings you wouldn't necessarily need to bring anyone with you, but you may want to bring the one person with you which you most appreciate their advice and want to share the whole experience with.
Otherwise, there is no need to have someone with you until the last fitting where you can show your dress when it fit and looks perfect on you, and as a bonus they can help you with the transport of the dress.
How many fittings would you need?
As an average you would need at least 2 Alteration fitting.
Your first fitting appointment to determine all the alterations needed to be made and a second fitting appointment to make sure that you are satisfied with all the alterations made.
If any other minor alterations are needed then a final and third fitting would be scheduled on your second fitting.
If you are having major alterations to your dress and you are having it taken in more that 2-3 sizes you would need at least three fittings. This would be only if we would need to hold back on your hem to pin it on your second fitting.
The first two fittings are included in the fee of your alterations and any further fitting will be charged at $50 under the discretion of the seamstress.
THINGS TO THINK ABOUT BEFORE YOUR wedding DRESS FITTING
Look into what Bustle Styles would you like and want to try on the day of your fitting. There are many options, but they may be limited to the style of train your wedding dress has.
Look to buy and bring the shoes you will be wearing on the day or a shoe that will be the same height as the shoes you will be planning to wear.
