Seamstress's Advice: Your First Wedding Dress Fitting

Updated: Apr 12

Dear Bride-to-Be, congratulations on finding your dream wedding dress! We are thrilled to be a part of your journey towards the perfect fit. In this guide, we will provide valuable advice to help you prepare for your first wedding dress fitting, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience. Let's dive in!

1. Research and Communication:

First and foremost, we appreciate your trust in our expertise as your bridal seamstress. Finding skilled professionals who understand your vision and can bring it to life is crucial. We are here to listen to your desires, discuss your expectations, and ensure that we achieve the best possible fit for your dream dress. Effective communication is key, so please feel free to share any specific alterations or concerns you may have.

2. Schedule For Your Fittings:

To ensure a smooth process, it's important to plan your fittings in advance. Typically, six to eight weeks before your wedding day is ideal. This timeframe allows us to make necessary alterations and adjustments without rushing. Once your fittings are booked please try and keep to your scheduled appointments. your appointments are strategically booked to ensure ample time for the alterations and any extra fitting that may be needed. We know life can get busy and in case of any fitting needing to be rescheduled, we will work with you to rebook your fitting to accommodate both of our schedules, ensuring ample time for your dress to be perfectly tailored.

3. Dress Appropriately:

When attending your fitting, it's essential to wear the appropriate undergarments that you plan to wear on your wedding day. This includes a strapless bra, shapewear, or any other foundational garments that will impact the fit of your dress. Additionally, please remember to bring your wedding shoes. Assessing the length and making accurate alterations depends on the shoes you will be wearing. Forgetting your shoes may result in rescheduling your first fitting and an additional fitting charge of $50.

4. Avoid Wearing Makeup:

To prevent the risk of staining your beautiful wedding dress, we advise refraining from wearing makeup on the day of your fitting. Foundation, lipstick, or other cosmetics can leave marks that are difficult to remove from delicate fabrics. By keeping your dress pristine, we can focus solely on achieving the perfect fit.

5. Be Mindful of Pins:

During the fitting process, we will use pins to temporarily adjust and mark your dress for alterations. It's important to be cautious and aware of the pins once they are in place. Accidentally pricking yourself can not only be painful but may also result in getting blood on the dress. We want to avoid any mishaps that could cause unnecessary stress or additional alterations.

6. Embrace the Unexpected:

Throughout the fitting process, we may offer suggestions based on your body type, dress style, or fabric behaviour to enhance the fit and overall look of your dress. Trust in our expertise, as these suggestions are aimed at making you feel comfortable and confident on your big day. Embracing the unexpected alterations can often lead to a more personalized and flattering outcome.

7. Bring a Supportive Companion:

Having a trusted friend or family member by your side during your fitting can provide valuable support and feedback. Choose someone whose opinion you trust and who understands your style. Their presence can make the experience even more memorable and enjoyable.

Dear Bride-to-Be, we are honoured to be a part of your journey towards the perfect fit for your wedding dress. By following these tips, communicating openly, and embracing the fitting process, we will create a dress that captures your vision and makes you feel stunning on your special day. Remember, your wedding dress is a reflection of your unique style and personality. We are here to guide you every step of the way, ensuring that you walk down the aisle with confidence and grace.
